Sometimes people ask me, “Do you miss teaching?” And my answer is, YES! You can take the teacher out of the classroom, but you can’t take the teacher out of the girl.
Becoming a therapist was a career transition that was absolutely the most aligned one, and yet there is a part of my heart that still comes alive when I have the opportunity to teach. Over the past few years, I’ve had some opportunities to teach seminars in a variety of settings, from graduate school settings to local conferences to virtual continuing education events for therapists. A few presentations include:
The Intersection of Trauma and Body Image
Understanding Eating Disorder Behaviors Through a Polyvagal Lens
But why is it so hard? On Making and Keeping Adult Friendships
Recognizing and Understanding Emotions: Emotion Regulation 101
The Polyvagal Theory: An Understanding of your Autonomic Nervous System and What it Has to do With Mental Health.
It’s not just mental: Understanding The Role of The Nervous System in Youth Mental Health
I feel uniquely gifted in my ability to distill complex scientific information and nuanced research findings into a format that is both digestible and understandable. My teaching style is expressive, interactive, engaging, and relational.
Topics I love to teach about include:
Big and “Little t” trauma
Eating Disorders / Disordered Eating
Nervous System and Emotion Regulation
Cultivating Healthy Body Image (in a culture that makes that really hard)
Understanding the Polyvagal Theory (and what that has to do with our mental and emotional health)
Parenting (connection-focused, attachment-oriented, and with developmental psychology principles leading the way)
So, if you need a therapist with some rad teaching skills - I’ve got you!
But really, let’s start a conversation. I’d love to talk about how I can help you or your organization learn about important mental health topics and grow personally or professionally.
